Arches National Park in Utah has over 2,000 natural stone arches.⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few years ago I had the opportunity to hike up to “Fragile Arch” (pictured here) with a group of friends to watch the sunset. We were silent as the sun dipped below the horizon as if any sound would break the spell of reverence that had fallen upon us. As darkness set in, we quietly walk back to our car using our headlamps, our hearts filled by a momentary experience that would stay with us forever.⠀⠀
The following artwork is the preliminary, black and white version of my design that I created first before proceeding to color. I used this drawing to plan the linear patterns that flow through the finished illustration.
